Ring Making Workshop

Do you want to make a silver ring in a day?

Have you ever wondered how much work goes into making jewellery? Have you ever wanted to have a try yourself? If you’ve answered “yes” to both of these questions, then my two and a half hour, hands-on ring making session will be perfect for you! Run out of my little garden workshop in Hanwell, West London (affectionately known as “The She Cave”), my ring making classes for beginners offer a great introduction to jewellery making. If you’ve never been to Ealing, you’ll be pleasantly surprised: easily accessible by public transport, lots of great parks and other unique creative workshops!

My one-day ring making class arose from my desire to promote ethical and sustainable jewellery, whilst sharing my love of all things handmade. What better way to make something sustainably than to create it yourself, and at the same time gain an appreciation of the time it takes to make jewellery by hand.

Why choose one of my private jewellery making workshops?

During my hands-on jewellery workshops, you will receive step-by-step tutoring from me, on how to make your own silver ring. We will discuss and plan your design, I will explain the process in a relaxed and friendly manner, so that you feel comfortable using all the the equipment. I’m a patient, knowledgeable tutor who likes questions and I like to make everyone feel that they can create an original piece of jewellery that they’ll be able to wear on their way home!

The ‘She Cave’ is a small but well-equipped workspace that will comfortably accommodate myself and one or two students at a time. In a Guardian feature article, I spoke about the importance of having a space that was not only functional but also somewhere that’s pleasant to work. So I think you’ll enjoy visiting the ‘She Cave’ to make your jewellery.

You will learn:

  • How to size your ring.

  • How to use a jeweller’s saw effectively and safely.

  • How to create texture on your ring.

  • How to solder safely.

  • How to polish/finish.

Is this silver jewellery making workshop suitable for beginners?

No previous experience in metal working is needed, just an enthusiasm to learn and try something new! Please don’t worry if you’re “not creative”, I strongly believe that everyone has a creative side and it just needs the right prompts to switch it on. If you need a little inspiration, click HERE to view my Pinterest board with images of previous students’ creations.

The jewellery making workshops take place in my well-ventilated, cosy garden studio. There is currently no disabled access. The sessions are suitable for ages 15 and upwards. I am also DBS checked.

Flexible Date Booking Options

If you’re keen to try a workshop but unsure of the dates, simply choose the ‘flexible booking’ option from the drop down menu. You can then contact me via email to book a date that’s convenient for you - I do offer weekday session on request too.

If you’re looking to purchase a workshop experience as a gift, why not choose an E-gift card to the value of the workshop.

Whilst there is space in my workshop to remain safely distanced, there are aspects of the session where I will need to demonstrate the safe use of equipment and students will need to be close enough to see this. With this in mind, I have plastic face shields available for student on request. I’m also happy to wear a mask during workshops if you’d feel more comfortable.

My studio does not have toilet facilities, but students are very welcome to use my home toilet.

Please feel free to contact me at angebdesigns@gmail.com if you have any other questions or check out some of my reviews here.

If you would prefer to make something bigger, take a look at my bangle making workshop. If you’d like to try another method for jewellery making, I also teach a group lost wax carving workshop monthly in Ealing Broadway.

Can I make my ring in other metals?

For economical reasons, I run my beginners jewellery making workshops using recycled sterling silver. This enables me to keep the cost of the workshops as accessible as possible. If you’d prefer to make your piece in 9 carat gold, please feel free to contact me directly. We can then discuss your design ideas and additional charges, as metal prices fluctuate daily and this would have to be considered prior to your booking.

“Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done! Such a wonderful experience, very hands on and I was so impressed with the end result. Ange was incredible, so knowledgable and friendly. Really made me feel at ease and paced the session really well.
I had no prior experience of making jewellery or working with silver prior to this session and I absolutely loved it! Would 100% recommend, 10/10.”
